Ideally, solar attic fans are mounted on the tops of roofs, and are installed within existing vent holes. Even better, the fan you have purchased retrofits into an existing vent hole without any modifications required.
But what happens when there are no existing vent holes in the roof? Or the existing holes are oversized or undersized?
This unique problem was recently encountered when technicians from Smart Solar Vents were called to install solar attic fans on a recreational vehicle (RV) garage building. Not only were there no existing vents in this building, there was no ventilation to speak of at all.
To tackle this unique challenge, Smart Solar Vents’ technicians chose iSolar Solutions’ line of products, which are renowned for their ability to be used in modular and specially-tailored configurations.
Rather than mounting the equipment on the roof, the technicians took a customized approach. They installed two iSolar 19W-MOD fans on the building soffits – the surface beneath the eave that connects the roof to the outside wall of a building. Four louvered chrome vents were then also installed on the building’s soffits, which complemented the existing passive static intake vents to achieve optimal airflow. The entire custom configuration was then hooked up to a single 50W-MOD solar panel, which could be located just about anywhere with the extension cable.
By contrast, many other solar attic fans restrict consumers to powering each fan with an individual solar panel. Many competitor attic fans also cannot be mounted in any other locations other than on a building’s roof, greatly restricting their versatility in challenging installation situations. In addition most solar attic fans require some modification to the existing vent holes.
“This installation speaks to the modular approach our product can take to strategically position fans in an attic to get the optimal airflow,” said John Lambert, iSolar Solutions’ Vice President of Business Development. “Most competitor products could not possibly be utilized in this situation.”
This installation also demonstrates the versatility of iSolar Solutions’ products in bringing healthy airflow to a variety of different structures. In addition to home attics, iSolar Solutions’ solar attic fans can be used to ventilate storage sheds, prefabricated portable buildings and even portable washrooms.
The line of products offered by iSolar Solutions also gives consumers a diverse array of choices when it comes to customizing installation configurations. From smaller more versatile fans like the 19W-MOD that are suited to residential homes, to more powerful models like the 50W-INT that are geared towards larger buildings like commercial greenhouses, iSolar Solutions has products to meet every project and budget.
