Ideally, a solar attic fan sits on top of a home’s roof, in an existing vent hole. Even better if the fan you have purchased retrofits into an existing vent hole without any modifications required.

But what happens when the roofs have no existing vent holes? Or the existing holes are oversized or undersized? 

Technicians from Smart Solar Vents recently encountered this unique problem they had to install solar attic fans on a recreational vehicle (RV) garage building. Not only were there no existing vents, but the building also has no ventilation to speak of at all. 

How did they tackle this challenge?

To tackle this unique challenge, Smart Solar Vents’ technicians chose iSolar Solutions’ line of products. These products, renowned in the market, boast the ability in modular and specially tailored configurations.

Rather than mounting the equipment on the roof, the technicians took a customized approach. They installed two 20W106-FLEX fans on the building soffits – the surface beneath the eave that connects the roof to the outside wall of a building. Then, they also installed four louvered chrome vents on the building’s soffits. These complemented the existing passive static intake vents to achieve optimal airflow. The entire custom configuration ran to a single 50W-MOD solar panel. Because of the fan’s lengthy extension cable, it too could be located just about anywhere.

By contrast, many other solar attic fans restrict consumers to powering each fan with an individual solar panel. Many competitor attic fans have restrictions when it comes to their mounting capabilities. Any locations other than a building’s roof only results to failures on installation. This of course greatly reduces their versatility in challenging installation situations. In addition, most solar attic fans require some modification to the existing vent holes.
